Living Space: Mobile App

Role: Concept, UX/UI, Typography, Graphics

This mobile app concept helps people organize, set up, and fill out any room in their home.

The design for this app was guided by the statement: Busy, college-aged people who function on a budget need options for easily setting up an apartment/living space in order to have a complete and comfortable space that enhances their wellbeing.

Living Space allows the user to rearrange a space with their current furnishings, select new furniture and set up an entirely new space, keep a catalog of their room layouts, view a room through an augmented reality feature, and even suggests a range of home-goods shops.

The specific needs of the target user inform both the visual language and the features.

Living Space’s flagship room setup feature guides users through a simple three-step process of first choosing or inputting their room’s dimensions, then entering their existing or desired furniture elements, and finally selecting a goal for the function of the room. The app then provides the user with a series of unique layout options to choose from or further refine to their exact specifications.

To cater to anticipated needs of the target audience like budget limitations and transportation challenges, the shop section allows users to sort stores by price and filter for proximity, product type, and more.

In order to appeal to a younger audience who may have less experience moving and establishing an initial interior layout and to mitigate the stress of this process, the app employs clean type treatment, minimal UI, and a simple airy color palette which largely restricts the use of color to key information only, setting a gentle, sophisticated, almost meditative tone for the user.
